2026 Schedule – Newcomers Friday Hikes
The hiking schedule is subject to change or cancellation due to weather, trail conditions, etc. Please note, unless otherwise stated, all hikes start at 8am. We meet at the designated meetup location (noted under each hike) to organize the carpool.

The Friday hiking group welcomes new members. If you are not already a CCNC member, as per Club policy, you are welcome to sample three activities before joining. As hiking carries certain inherent risks, please complete the attached liability waiver and send it to Friday Hiking Group.

4/10 Columbia Gorge - COLUMBIA HILLS VISTA LOOP
The trail begins with a steady climb to the top of the bluff. From the top, there are beautiful views of the Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Hood. Open country with spectacular views. Possible ticks and poison oak

4/17 Columbia Gorge - CATHERINE CREEK TRACY HILL LOOP
Hike by waterfall, oak groves to vistas over the Columbia. Peak wildflower displays: grass widows in March, blue camas in April. Open country with spectacular views. Possible ticks and poison oak.

4/24 Columbia Gorge - LYLE CHERRY ORCHARD
Climb up to a plateau where the Columbia River view opens up and stays with you as you hike through a diverse meadow of spring-time wildflowers: death camas, grass widow, larkspur, glacier lilies, shooting star, locoweed, and balsamroot, to name a few.

5/1 Columbia Gorge - TOM MCCALL PRESERVE
This trail offers grasslands, basalt cliffs, and scrub oak forests form the landscape you’ll hike through on a trail that climbs steadily with ever-increasing views. Stunning wild flowers in the spring.

5/13 (Wed hike) Columbia Gorge - DOG MOUNTAIN
This is a not-to-be-missed hike with stunning wildflower display. Note, it can be quite cool and windy on top. Steep, open slope to traverse and quite slippery if wet. This is a not-to-be-missed hike for the hardy!

Strenuous with moderate options. Cliff areas with cable for handrails. Numerous waterfalls and creek views. Some rockslide areas to traverse. Rocky parts of the trail may be slippery when wet. Beautiful views of Mt. Hood.

This trail is part of the Bells Mountain/Tarbell Trail. Walk through woods down to Hidden Falls.

6/19 Yacolt Burn Forest – SWORD FERN, BELL MOUNTAIN
This is a recently built lollipop loop trail that takes you through a 3rd growth Douglas and Hemlock fir forest before arriving at a summit with glorious mountain views.

6/26 Mount Hood - CENTRAL SALMON RIVER
Hike upriver through old growth Douglas fir forest, then uphill to spectacular views of Salmon River’s huge canyon land.

7/3 Mt St Helens - APE CAVE (upper trail)
The 1.5 mile upper cave route leads to a climb up an 8-ft rock wall and scramble over rock piles, then exit on a ladder and a 1.5 mile above ground hike back to parking lot. Note, this is a slow-going trek to get over rocks in the dark w/o tripping. Cave temp is 42F year-round, bring warm clothing. Make sure to have two sources of light per per-son (headlamp is great but a cell phone light is insufficient). 7/10 Mt Hood - BURNT LAKE/ZIG ZAG MOUNTAIN
Moderate option to Burnt Lake, climb to Zig Zag is more strenuous. Great views and some steep cliff-side drops. Hikers should carpool together based on length of hike they intend to make. Beautiful views of Mt. Hood.

7/17 Mt Hood - DOLLAR LAKE
On the picturesque north side of Mt. Hood lies Vista Ridge Trail leading you to Barrett Spur and a brisk climb to outstanding views from tiny Dollar Lake. Moderately steep route passing through high alpine mountain meadows and a vast, exposed burn forest. Out n’ back with possible loop option.

8/29 Gifford Pinchot - LEWIS RIVER
Winding through lush old-growth forests and tracing the rushing waters of the Lower Lewis River, this 8-10 mile out-and-back section of the longer 28-mile trail offers a serene yet invigorating hike. Expect short but steep undulations as the path hugs the riverbank, weaving past moss-draped trees and scenic river pools. Possible small creek crossings and one tree bridge.

9/4 Columbia Gorge - WAHKEENA FALLS to DEVIL’S REST
Devil’s Rest looms some 900 ft above Angel’s Rest. While the summit offers no views whatsoever at its mossy rock pile, there are however commanding views east from clifftop perches nearby. Option for return loop via Multnomah Falls.
